Several teams in the Top 25 impressed over the weekend.The first big weekend of national basketball tournaments lived up to the billing.
The sixth annual Chicago Elite Classic pitted the top teams in the state against powerhouses from Indiana, Kansas, Missouri and South Carolina this past weekend.

Sunrise Christian Academy Elite (Bel Aire, Kan.) downed past No. 12 La Lumiere (LaPorte, Ind.) 56-47 on the big stage of the University of Illinois-Chicago Pavilion. Guard
Carlos Paez showed out with a game-high 14 points while going a perfect 8-for-8 from the free-throw line. It was a huge bounce-back performance for the Buffaloes after dropping a 59-55 stunner Thursday to Victory Rock (Sarasota, Fla.).

Simeon (Chicago) proved too tough for Chaminade (St. Louis) in its season opener. Iowa State commit
Talen Horton-Tucker went off for 21 points and 12 rebounds in a 54-50 victory.
St. Benedict's Prep (Newark, N.J.) surprised some folks at the Marshall County Hoopfest in Kentucky over the weekend. Shooting guard
Lester Quinones dropped a game-high 38 points to spur a wowing 64-55 win over previous No. 15 Huntington St. Joseph Prep (Huntington, W. Va.). The signature victory sprang the Gray Bees to No. 22 in this week's rankings.
Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, Va.) also proved worthy of its No. 3 ranking. The Warriors blasted Hamilton Heights Christian Academy (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and Tennessee Prep (Memphis, Tenn.) by an average of 26 points.
