Marist (Chicago, Ill.) volleyball coach Jordan Vidovic has his programs rolling after winning a second straight Illinois Class 4A boys title Saturday.
Couple that with the girls championship in the fall and Vidovic's teams have captured back-to-back-to-back championships.
The MaxPreps National Coach of the Year on the girls side last fall led the boys team to a 25-20, 25-20 victory over
Glenbard West (Glen Ellyn) in Saturday's final behind seniors
Christian Teresi and
Nate Toth Teresi, an Ohio State commit, tallied 14 kills, 15 assists and seven digs in the sweep while MIT recruit Toth added 11 kills as the boys (40-2) won their third state championship and the school's seventh.
"We won it last year, and we had a target on our backs," Toth told
Southwest Regional Publishing. "But we wanted championship No. 2, what more motivation do you need than that? This one is better. We came here to finish the job."
In the fall, Vidovic's
Marist girls team went 32-9, including a 15-match win streak to close the season in which they only dropped one set. They beat
Benet Academy (Lisle) 19-25, 25-16, 25-19 in the final behind 16 kills from
Bella Bullington and 10 from
Savannah Weathers.
This year's boys team, ranked No. 12 in the MaxPreps computer rankings, played an aggressive schedule that included a trip to California to compete in the Karch Kiraly Tournament of Champions. After getting swept in the opening match by No. 1
Mira Costa (Manhattan Beach, Calif.), the RedHawks bounced back to beat the Mustangs in a thrilling five-set reverse sweep.
The Mira Costa loss and a loss to
Roncalli (Indianapolis, Ind.) were the only two suffered by Marist all season. The RedHawks didn't drop a set to an in-state opponent until the semifinals.
Vidovic
told the Chicago Times to win back-to-back titles and play a loaded schedule made this championship that much more special.
