Video: The Season - De La Salle wins state championshipThe state championships in California and Texas resulted in new No. 1 teams in the Southwest and the West regions of the MaxPreps Regional High School Football Computer Rankings.
De La Salle (Concord, Calif.) knocked off Centennial (Corona, Calif.) in the California Open Division state final to move up to No. 1 in the West. Meanwhile Katy (Texas) defeated Lake Travis (Austin, Texas) to win the Class 6A-Division II championship in Texas and move up to No. 1 in the Southwest.
The other No. 1 teams were all idle: Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey, N.J.) in the Northeast, DeMatha (Hyattsville, Md.) in the South, and St. Edward (Lakewood, Ohio) in the Midwest all ended their seasons.
The regional rankings are based on the
MaxPreps Computer Rankings, presented by the Army National Guard. For the purposes of these rankings, the country was broken down into five regions:
West: California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, Hawaii, Alaska, and Montana.
Southwest: Arizona, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas.
Midwest: Arkansas, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, Iowa, Wisconsin and Minnesota.
South: Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky, West Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, D.C.
Northeast: Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maine, Delaware and Vermont.
