California high school football scores: Folsom beats De La Salle 28-27 to advance to CIF 1AA title game against Cathedral Catholic

For the first time in the 16-year history of the CIF Bowl championships, De La Salle (Concord) will not be one of the participants after Folsom upset the Spartans 28-27 on Friday. The Bulldogs, who scored the go-ahead touchdown on a Tyler Tremain 3-yard score late in the fourth, held De La Salle out of the end zone on a two-point conversion with 1:21 left in the game.

On the other side of the bracket, Cathedral Catholic beat Orange Lutheran 71-62 as Lucky Sutton ran for 431 yards on 27 carries and scored seven touchdowns.

California postseason football is in full effect this weekend as the CIF Regional Bowls kickoff a run to the state finals. Twenty-six games will be played in Northern and Southern California on Friday and Saturday in 13 divisions with the winners advancing to play in the state finals on Dec. 10-11.

Joining that action next week will be Mater Dei (Santa Ana), the No. 1 team in the MaxPreps Top 25, taking on Serra (San Mateo) in the Open Division finals at 8 p.m.  Dec. 11 at Saddleback College. The winners of this week's action in the Open Division along with 1AA, 1A, 2AA and 2A will play for titles at Saddleback, with the remaining divisions at host sites across the state.
