Top 50 high school football scoreboard: No. 5 Grayson beats McEachern in Georgia showdown

The top-rated team from Georgia has dominated its first two opponents to begin the 2020 season as No. 5 Grayson (Loganville) rolled past McEachern (Powder Springs) 55-21. The Rams have outscored the opposition 106-34 this year.

No. 15 Trinity (Louisville) opened up its season and cruised to a one-sided 44-7 win over Archbishop Moeller (Cincinnati). Nathan McElroy threw for three touchdowns and Armon Tucker added two more scores on the ground.

Up next for the Shamrocks is rival Male (Louisville) in a rematch of last year's 6A state championship game.

No. 36 Chaminade-Madonna (Hollywood, Fla.) beat the defending 2A state champs Champagnat Catholic (Hialeah, Fla.) 27-14 in its season opener. 2021 Miami commit Thad Franklin rushed for nearly 200 yards and four touchdowns and up next for the three-time defending 3A state champs is No. 22 American Heritage (Plantation, Fla.) on Sept. 18. 

St. Edward (Lakewood, Ohio) bounced back in a big way after losing to No. 34 Archbishop Hoban (Akron, Ohio) and knocked off No. 27 Mentor (Ohio) 28-24. They outscored the Cardinals 15-0 in the fourth quarter and expect them to get back in the Top 50 rankings on Monday.

No. 9 Lowndes (Valdosta, Ga.), No. 14 Corner Canyon (Draper, Utah), No. 20 Thompson (Alabaster, Ala.), No. 23 Pickerington Central (Pickerington, Ohio), No. 32 Hoover (Ala.), No. 33 Parkview (Lilburn, Ga.), No. 34 Archbishop Hoban (Akron, Ohio), No. 38 North Gwinnett (Suwanee, Ga.), No. 45 Hewitt-Trussville (Hewitt, Ala.) and No. 50 Massillon Washington (Ohio) all won this week.

Bloomingdale (Valrico, Fla.) knocked off No. 44 Armwood (Seffner, Fla.) and North Cobb beat No. 49 Buford (Ga.) as they joined No. 27 Mentor (Ohio) as the only Top 50 teams to lose this week.
