As Germany continued its dominant run through the World Cup in South Africa with a 4-0 win over Argentina on Saturday, a similar juggernaut is emerging in another international competition back home.
The United States Under-17 National Team recorded its second blowout win in as many days at the FIBA World Championships in Hamburg, blasting Lithuania 102-66.
"Our players were well-prepared and came into the game focused," USA head coach Don Showalter said. "Our team is getting better with every game they play."
Bradley Beal of Chaminade (St. Louis, Mo.) and James McAdoo of Norfolk Christian (Norfolk, Va.) led the scoring charge for the United States, tacking up 16 points apiece.
After out-rebounding Argentina 57-35 Friday en route to an 82-70 win, the Americans held a decisive advantage on the glass once again as nine players grabbed three boards or more, led by McAdoo's seven.
Quinn Cook, a recent Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, Va.) addition, posted the most impressive all-around stat line with nine points, eight assists and six rebounds.
Rokas Narkevicius led the way for Lithuania with 14 points.
Despite the loss, Lithuania assistant coach Egidijus Zenevicius is confident his team will rebound and see the United States again.
"Our defense was really bad throughout the whole game," Zenevicius said. "We will face the USA once again in the semifinals of this tournament."
Through two games the United States is averaging 92 points per game and allowing 68. Showalter's squad will face China in a highly-anticipated matchup Monday.
