Must-see high school basketball showcase events in 2012-13

After previewing the top high school basketball tournaments slated for the rapidly-approaching 2012-13 season last week, we switch gears for a look at the top showcase events.

The January path of preseason No. 1 (the secret is out) Simeon (Chicago) is worth noting.

The Wolverines' trek begins in West Virginia just after the New Year to take on potential Academy Top 10 preseason No. 1 Montverde Academy (Montverde, Fla.) at the Cancer Research Classic.

One week later, Simeon hits the road again to face Southwind (Memphis, Tenn.) on its home turf at the Penny Hardaway Hoopfest. Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, Va.) stands in the way Jan. 21 at the Spalding Hoophall Classic in Massachusetts – the site of the Chicago school's only loss in 2011-12.

Simeon also has a major showdown at home to close out the month, facing archrival Whitney Young (Chicago) on Jan. 26.
