ORLANDO – The month of June used to be one that featured a few camps but also plenty of rest for prospects, coaches and scouts. Now, it is maybe the busiest month of the year. There are more camps than ever, there are multiple live periods, players are getting in visits and then the month finishes with the NBPA Top 100 Camp. The kids in attendance look rightfully exhausted and with each game that passes, a few more drop off. So for day two, energy and effort mattered a lot and we want to focus on those who stood out to us in those areas. We can't get to them all, but here are some standouts.
Biliew's energy stands out
There's no way to tell if
Omaha Biliew saw that we wrote that the path to No. 1 in 2023 runs through
G.G. Jackson and we aren't suggesting he will be No. 1. What we are suggesting, though, is that five-star rising senior who currently ranks No. 16 in the Class of 2023 gave Jackson his stiffest test when matched up with him and the reasons he did so were simple.
At 6-foot-8 with long arms and upper-end athleticism, Biliew has the physical attributes to give Jackson trouble. It is another thing to have athleticism, but the energy and competitive desire to make a No. 1 player work like Biliew did don't come easy. In a Thursday afternoon game his energy was off the charts as he flew all over the floor and showed the type of menace he can be defensively.
He didn't put up a ton of points but did get some things going while attacking the rim. The overall effort is what stood out though. Down to Iowa State, Kansas, Oregon and the G League, he's been rumored to be leaning towards a return to his home state of Iowa. If he does indeed go with the Clones, he could be a game changer on both ends for a few years.
