See how early season tournament play shaped this week's Top 25 rankings.See the video above for a complete breakdown of this week's Xcellent 25 High School Basketball Rankings presented by the Army National Guard.
Here's a look at developments that shaped this week's Top 25:
Best show in the businessNBA veteran and
Shadow Mountain (Phoenix) head coach Mike Bibby might have the most entertaining team in high school basketball. The Matadors jumped 16 spots all the way to No. 8 this week — and for good reason.
The 'Maniac' Matadors suffocating full-court defense leads the nation with 35 steals per game. Their uptempo, unselfish offensive style produces highlight-reel dunks and fans wanting more. Shadow Mountain has one of the best young teams in the nation with four underclassmen averaging double figures. Four-star
Jaelen House and 3-star
Jovan Blacksher form one of the best backcourts in America while combining for 20 steals per contest. The Matadors battle California heavyweights Chino Hills (Calif.) and Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth, Calif.) this weekend at the American Family Insurance Hoophall West.
Three new teams join the party
•
St. Benedict's Prep (Newark, N.J.) surprised some folks at the Marshall County Hoopfest in Kentucky over the • weekend. Guard
Lester Quinones dropped a game-high 38 points to spur a wowing 64-55 win over previous No. 15 Huntington St. Joseph Prep (W. Va.). The signature victory sprang the previously unranked Gray Bees to No. 22 this week.
•
Bishop Montgomery (Torrance, Calif.) might be the best defensive unit in America. The California defending Open Division state champs are allowing a paltry 34 points per game so far this season. The No. 23 Knights also captured the Trevor Ariza Westchester Tip-Off Classic title Saturday in California. This is all pretty impressive considering 3-star
Gianni Hunt is still nursing an ankle injury.
•
University (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) rejoins the fray at No. 24 after a week out.
Vernon Carey Jr., the nation's top overall junior, leads a loaded lineup.
Tournament to watchThe Houston Methodist Cy-Hoops Invitational is a must-see event this week. Sixth-ranked Cypress Falls (Houston), No. 17 Guyer (Denton, Texas) and Westlake (Austin, Texas) headline a star-studded, 24-team tourney that will truly determine the top team in Texas. Cypress Falls' 35-game winning streak is the longest of any team in the Top 25. Guyer knocked off previous No. 15 Westlake last week. The three-day event starts on Thursday. Buckle up!

Shadow Mountain, led by former NBA player Mike Bibby, might be the most entertaining team in the country.
