The gymnasium at
Bingham (South Jordan, Utah) was bursting with enthusiasm when the ninth-annual MaxPreps Football Tour of Champions presented by the National Guard came to town. As MaxPreps and the Utah Army National Guard entered the gym for the presentation, the students started chanting "UNDEFEATED"!
Bingham completed a perfect 14-0 season to claim its eighth Utah 5A state championship. Bingham's head football coach David Peck stated, "I feel like a proud parent. It is a great accomplishment to be recognized by the leading authority in high school athletics, MaxPreps. It is an honor and a privilege."
The Bingham High School football team landed 19th in the national rankings by MaxPreps. This is the third time the Miners are part of the Tour of Champions. Their previous selections were for the 2010 season when they finished 27th in the nation and in 2009 when they ended up No. 45.
At halftime of the Bingham basketball game, the Tour of Champions ceremony began. Richelle Lund, the MaxPreps representative, took the microphone and told the crowd that it takes a whole community to achieve excellence. "When I look around, I know why Bingham was able to accomplish the honor of receiving the Army National Guard national ranking trophy."
Staff Sergeant Mike Jones of the Utah National Guard continued the ceremony and explained that the Miners football team represents what can be accomplished with true teamwork. Coach Peck was then presented with the Army National Guard national ranking trophy. Peck spoke of his gratitude to the National Guard for their sacrifice for our freedoms and the example of their leadership in Utah's communities. He thanked MaxPreps for the honor of being recognized among the best in the nation. The entire Bingham football team joined SSG Jones and Peck at halfcourt and Peck raised the trophy and the crowd erupted.
Congratulations Bingham football team! We hope to see you again on the Tour of Champions!
