The MaxPreps National Player of the Year will be named at the conclusion of the 2025-26 high school basketball season, marking the 21st year for that honor going back to Greg Oden in 2006. Kevin Love (2007), Lonzo Ball (2016), Michael Porter Jr. (2017), Cade Cunningham (2020), Chet Holmgren (2021) and Cameron Boozer (2023, 2025) are among the winners in the years since.

At the approximate mid-way point of the season, it's time to look at the candidates to join that list. Standouts from 15 states and the District of Columbia made the cut.

The leading scorer in the Nike EYBL is averaging 25 points, 10 rebounds and three steals per game on the season to help Utah Prep get off to an 18-3 start.

After taking on the primary scoring role for the four-time defending state champions, Gaskins is averaging 21.9 points, 10.1 rebounds, 3.3 assists to help the Explorers reach the No. 25 spot in the MaxPreps Top 25.

Despite missing nine games due to injury, Holt has been the catalyst for the Crew with averages of 19 points, eight rebounds, four assists and two steals per game.

Top 40 prospect is tallying 19.4 points, 5.9 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game to help the Crusaders reach the No. 10 spot in the MaxPreps Top 25. He has upped those numbers to 26.7 points, 8.7 rebounds and 4.7 assists over his last three outings.

Leader in the clubhouse for Utah MaxPreps Player of the Year honors, Rueckert is averaging 21.1 points, 5.9 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game for the No. 16-ranked team in the MaxPreps Top 25.

The catalyst for the top-ranked team in the MaxPreps Top 25, Smith is averaging 27.9 points, 4.6 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.5 steals per contest against a tough national slate. Smith earned MVP honors at the City of Palms Classic last month.
