Video: Georgia kicker's long FG ties state recordSee the Cairo standout boot a 56-yard kick.Tying a single-season state record is pretty impressive, but doing it with a booming 56-yard field goal - that's next level.
Cole Phillips of
Cairo (Ga.) tied the Georgia state record for the most single-season made field goals (20) with a memorable 56-yard boot in a 17-13 loss to Jefferson in the Georgia Class AAAA state quarterfinals.
To put that in perspective, only four NFL kickers have drilled one from farther this season. That's insane considering Phillips has only been kicking for eight months.
"I played soccer my whole life and wasn't getting the offers I wanted," Phillips said. "So I switched to kicking in March and haven't looked back since then."
Phillips has blossomed with the move and finished the season with the
second most recorded field goals in the entire nation.
The 6-foot-1, 205-pound senior has no offers yet but is generating interest from multiple FCS schools.
