Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in
high school basketball. America's source for high school sports continues
the tradition to close out the 2020-21 season by naming the top player in
each state. Selections are based on team success and individual
excellence, in addition to local and state accolades.
Aminu Mohammed of
Greenwood (Springfield)
is the 2020-21 MaxPreps Missouri High School Basketball Player of the
Year. The 6-foot-5, 190-pound senior helped the Blue Jays go 20-6 en route
to the state quarterfinals.
Mohammed averaged 23.3 points, 10.0 rebounds and 3.1 assists per contest while shooting 52 percent from the field.
After transferring from Washington, D.C., Mohammed spent his final three seasons at Greenwood, setting the all-time Springfield area record with 2,709 career points. He finished No. 13 on the all-time scoring list in state history.
Committed to Georgetown, Mohammed is regarded as the No. 19 prospect in the Class of 2021 overall according to 247Sports. The five-star guard also received offers from Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas State, Louisville, Maryland and Oklahoma State among others.
Each
state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in
the MaxPreps All-America Team, which is scheduled to be released April
13.
