With the Nebraska boys sub-district basketball tournaments for Classes B, C1, C2, D1 and D2 approaching next week, and district competition beginning for Class A the week after that, we have decided to take a look at which sub-districts could be the Waterloo for some very good Nebraska boys basketball teams in 2018-19.
And we decided to share our findings with you, the fan.
Using the average MaxPreps power ranking for the teams assigned to each Sub-District, we determined that once again the Class B-6 Sub-District, featuring Top 10 teams Aurora, York and Hastings is the toughest in Nebraska. The B-3 Sub-District and the B-2 Sub-District rank second and third in strength, respectively, while the C1-11 Sub-District and B-4 Sub-District round out the Top 5.
Classes B, C1 and C2 are all represented in this week's Top 10. Class A's district assignments have not been announced yet and Class D1 and Class D2 were unable to place a sub-district into the Top 10. However, the D1-9 Sub-District and the D2-1 Sub-District calculate to be the toughest in Nebraska's two smallest classifications respectively. The B-6 Sub-District also holds down the top spot when it comes to collective winning percentage among the sub-districts that are listed in this week's Top 10.
We did select a Class A game for this week's Top 10. While a regular-season game may not carry the same importance to some teams, as one of these tournaments, it is a big one to say the least. Sixth-ranked Omaha Westside, who has won 10 straight contests, travels to No. 11 Lincoln High this evening. Will the win streak hold up against the 12-9 Links, who are 4-6 in their last 10 battles? Lincoln High would love to get their hands on a huge home win over the 16-4 Warriors, allowing the Links to grab some momentum going into District play.
Below, listed under each sub-district, is that sub-district's collective winning percentage and each school that will compete in that tournament. To the left of each school is its MaxPreps ranking, as of Tuesday, while its updated record is in parenthesis to the right.
