The Arizona Lutheran Academy Coyotes put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They took their contest on the road with ease, bagging a 59-0 victory over St. John Paul II Catholic. Given Arizona Lutheran Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona football rankings (they are ranked 74th, while St. John Paul II Catholic is ranked 206th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Elijah Harris, who rushed for 97 yards and two touchdowns on only eight carries, and also picked up 36 receiving yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Jorge Lomeli, who threw for 98 yards and three touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes.
Arizona Lutheran Academy's win was their sixth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which bumped their overall record up to 10-0. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-9 Tempe and 3-7 St. John Paul II Catholic (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 40% over those games). As for St. John Paul II Catholic, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-7.
Arizona Lutheran Academy will be playing in front of their home fans against Scottsdale Preparatory Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Scottsdale Preparatory Academy is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. St. John Paul II Catholic does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
