After telling the football world he was going to be a Florida State Seminole in August,
James Wilder, Jr.'s college destination was still a subject of interest in the recruiting world.
Wilder, a 6-foot-2, 220-pounder equally adept at bowling over players as a running back and knocking them to the ground as a linebacker, said before the 2010 season began he felt more comfortable at FSU.
He confirmed that Wednesday, officially becoming a Seminole. And, officially becoming a Seminole running back.
Many recruiting services, prep coaches, college coaches and observers have noted Wilder's football future lies on defense. One Tampa Bay-area coach even said Wilder could be the ‘'next Derrick Brooks'' if he became a full time linebacker.
But Wilder never wavered from his preference to play college football as a running back.
And why not?
He amassed a little more than 2,500 yards in his two seasons at Plant (Tampa), while scoring 36 touchdowns and leading the Panthers to two state championship game appearances and one title. Wilder also posted 200 tackles and 27 sacks as a linebacker/defensive end.
