MaxPreps is pleased to announce that the
Yarmouth (Maine) Clippers have officially been named to the 12th Annual MaxPreps Soccer Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard, which is in its sixth year honoring girls soccer.
This is one of the most prestigious team awards in all of high school sports and it is an exclusive honor reserved for the top 100 teams nationwide. In order to be eligible, a team must win a state championship and be highly ranked in the
MaxPreps National Rankings. For soccer, only 20 of the country's best are invited and with nearly 34,000 competing varsity teams. This puts the Clippers ahead of 99.9 percent of their opponents!
On Saturday, Nov. 5 the Yarmouth Clippers scored three goals within 10 minutes in the second half of the
Class B state title game win over Waterville for their first state championship since 2003. The Panthers scored first but Yarmouth's second half comeback was unanswered by Waterville.
En route to the state final, the Clippers downed Gray-New Gloucester (3-0), Cape Elizabeth (3-1) and Greely (3-1) in the
2016 MPA Class B state playoffs.
Head coach Josh Thornton and the team finished the season (16-1-1) highly ranked by MaxPreps —
No.1 in Class B,
No.1 in the state and
No.5 in the nation.
These incredible season achievements have earned the Yarmouth Clippers an invitation to the 12th Annual Tour of Champions.
Please join us as we celebrate with the girls soccer team, coaching staff, students and fans on Friday, Feb. 3 at 11:15 a.m. during a lunch assembly in the cafeteria.
