Special teams carried
Alemany (Mission Hills, Calif.) to a 54-14 victory over
JW North (Riverside, Calif.) on Saturday as the return units contributed two touchdowns. The Warriors's special teams scored on a kick return and a punt return.
Alemany was up 24-0 at the half after taking the lead on a punt return touchdown by Mitchell in the first quarter.
AHS expanded its lead to 30 points entering the fourth quarter. The Mission Hills school scored three times in the third, including once on a kick return touchdown by Devin Ross.
Even though the Warriors led by 30 points entering the fourth quarter, they poured the points on, scoring 10 in the fourth.
The Huskies' Denzel Foster was the standout player for his team. The senior running back ran for two touchdowns.
Alemany's most effective player was Deshone Randall. The senior ran for two touchdowns.
The victory will ease some of the sting of AHS's close 36-35 loss to JW North last season.
The defeat comes as a step back for JW North, which notched a 41-0 victory over Colton in its previous outing. With the win the Warriors extended their winning streak to three games.
In a non-conference game next week Alemany (3-0) takes on Centennial, and JW North (1-1) will go up against Citrus Hill also in a non-conference game.
