Video: Volleyball play of the year
Amazing diving save followed by block-winner by Jonni Parker leads Miami East to title. Virtually every point is celebrated in volleyball. It's one of the many reasons it's such a fantastic sport.
But few in the storied history of
Miami East (Casstown, Ohio) volleyball will ever be celebrated more than
Jonni Parker's block-winner in Saturday's five-game win over Tuscarawas Valley (Zoarville) for the Ohio Division 3 state championship.
No, it wasn't the match-winner. Or even a game-winner. But it did come in the final game of a topsy-turvy 25-18, 25-17, 22-25, 22-25, 15-6 victory.
An errant pass was somehow chased down by Parker, a 6-foot junior, who made a spectacular diving save. The Ohio State commit remarkably sent the ball back over the net, immediately got back to her feet and sprinted back to the net, where she sent back a Tuscarawas Valley ball straight to the floor.
The Vikings went nuts and two plays later, they erupted with the deciding point en route to their third state championship. Parker has 1,087 career kills and 502 career digs in her illustrious career.
"There are not enough words to describe this play," someone in charge of Miami's twitter account wrote.
Watch the play and describe it for yourself.
