De La Salle wins big to set up showdown with Mater Dei while three teams join Top 25.

A rematch of the 2017 CIF Open Division state championship is going down Saturday at Cerritos College (Norwalk) between No. 8 De La Salle (Concord, Calif.) and No. 1 Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.).

The Spartans won their 27th consecutive North Coast section title with a 42-7 victory, handing Liberty (Brentwood) its first loss of the season. Shamar Garrett had a monster night on both sides of the ball, running one in from 39 yards and also returning an interception back for a score. De La Salle's last loss came against the Monarchs in last year's state championship, 52-21. Saturday, the Spartans get a chance to avenge that defeat.

No. 5 Colquitt County (Norman Park, Ga.) faced adversity for the first time all season and overcame it with a 22-21 overtime win against Archer (Lawrenceville) to book a trip to the 7A Georgia state championship game. Ryan Fitzgerald came up huge for the Packers hitting five field goals, including a 37-yarder to send the game to extra time. In overtime, Ty Leggett ran one in from nine yards out and Camari Louis made the biggest play of the night blocking Archer's game-tying extra point to seal the one-point victory. Colquitt County goes for its third state title since 2014 on Dec. 12 against Milton at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium (Atlanta).

No. 10 North Shore (Houston) had one of the most impressive wins of last week beating Katy for the second time this season. Dematrius Davis Jr. and Shadrach Banks both had monster nights in the 49-38 win. Banks, the top rated athlete in the Class of 2021, had four receptions for 193 yards and three scores. Davis threw for 340 yards and five scores in the 11-point victory. Zachary Evans, the top rated running back from the Class of 2020, rushed for 131 yards and a score. Up next for the Mustangs is the defending 6A-Division II state champs, Cy-Fair (Cypress), for a spot in the 6A-DI semifinals.

Three new teams enter this week's Top 25.

• Cardinal Gibbons (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) is back for the second time this year as the Chiefs clinched a spot in the 5A Florida state championship, beating Jesuit (Tampa) 14-3. They've reeled off 12 straight wins and the defense has been one of the best in the country since getting back their 4-star defensive end Khris Bogle. This is the first time since 1990 Gibbons plays for a state championship and a win Friday over North Marion (Citra) earns the Chiefs their first title in school history.

• Carroll (Southlake, Texas) joins the Top 25 after Riley Dodge led the Dragons to a 13-0 record in his first season as head coach. They face No. 15 Duncanville (Texas) on Saturday with a spot in the UIL Texas 6A Division I semifinals up for grabs.

• St. Edward (Lakewood, Ohio) joins the Top 25 after winning one of the toughest postseason brackets in the country. They handed Colerain (Cincinnati) its first loss of the season with a 24-10 win to capture the Ohio Division I state championship.

Two teams ranked in the Top 25 won state titles this past week.

• No. 17 Chandler (Ariz.) won its third straight 6A Arizona state championship, cruising to a 65-28 win over Perry (Gilbert, Ariz.). 2019 Cal commit DeCarlos Brooks had a huge season and capped it off rushing for 334 yards and six touchdowns in his final high school game. He finished the 2018 season rushing for 2,229 yards and 34 touchdowns. 2019 BYU commit Jacob Conover ended his postseason career a perfect 12-0 and will go down as one of the most clutch quarterbacks in state history.

• No. 18 Archbishop Hoban (Akron, Ohio) became the fifth team in Ohio history to win at least four consecutive state titles. They held off Washington (Massillon) 42-28 to win the Division II championship. Tyris Dickerson rushed for over 200 yards and scored two touchdowns and sophomore quarterback Shane Hamm finished the night with four touchdowns. The Knights enter the 2019 season riding a 29-game winning streak.
