Video: Recap - Lake Travis vs. The Woodlands 2016
Watch Texas' most dominant program in action during last season's playoffs.Seven state title game appearances since MaxPreps became America's source for high school sports make Lake Travis the most dominant program in the biggest high school football state in the nation.
It's not just reaching the big game that earned the Cavaliers the top spot. It's winning it.
Our list of the Top 15 most dominant programs in Texas since 2006 covers a variety of enrollment divisions. While the big schools typically get points for their finishes in the computer rankings, smaller schools with weaker overall schedules can make up for it with state titles. And that's how No. 13 Canadian grabbed a spot. Winning four titles and losing in the title game another year is enough to crack the Top 15.
In addition to covering many different sizes of schools, our list features teams from all four of the biggest metro areas in Texas: Austin, San Antonio, Dallas and Houston. But on top of that, there are squads from the absolute far north near Oklahoma and the far east near Arkansas. Three teams from East Texas also represent their region.
Here is how the points break down:
1. 20 for a state title
2. 10 for a state championship game appearance
3.
Other points are based on where a team finished in the final
MaxPreps Texas Football Computer Rankings presented by the Army National Guard. For example, if a team finished No. 1 overall, it would receive
25 points. If it finished 25th overall, the team would get one point. No
points are awarded if the team did not finish in the Top 25.
