On Saturday, Salpointe Catholic faced Chandler in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Salpointe Catholic took a 24-16 hit to the loss column at the hands of Chandler. The Lancers' defeat signaled the end of their ten-game winning streak.
No one put up better numbers for Chandler than junior Mikey Keene, who really brought his A game. He passed for 235 yards and two TDs. On the other hand, one thorn in Chandler's side was the less-than-spectacular play of junior Eli Sanders:
The Wolves' defense was a presence as well, and it made life painful for the QB and embarrassed the Lancers' offensive line for a total of ten sacks. It was a group effort with three picking up two sacks apiece.
The Lancers got a solid performance out of senior Bijan Robinson, who picked up 119 yards on the ground on 18 carries and caught four passes for 63 yards; unfortunately, it just wasn't enough for the win.
Salpointe Catholic's overall record now falls to 10-1. The victory for Chandler kept them a perfect 12-0.
Salpointe Catholic does not have any more games currently scheduled. The Wolves will have some time to rest before their next contest, which is against Saguaro in two weeks. These are two of the top teams in the nation (the Wolves are ranked 16th, Saguaro 87th), so it should shape up to be an exciting matchup.
