Perfection would be the best word to describe the
Bedford North Lawrence girls basketball team. The Lady Stars completed their season with a 28-0 record and clinched their school's third Indiana 4A state championship title. One member of the team described the moment the buzzer sounded and they became state champs as "magical." Coach Kurt Godlevske praised his team for both individual dedication to excellence and for their teamwork.
On the morning of Tuesday, April 2, every student at Bedford filed into the performing arts center. The spirit of the student body was electrifying. The assembly was called in anticipation of the Lady Stars national recognition by the MaxPreps Basketball Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard. Over 20,000 high school girls basketball teams were ranked by their wins and losses (or lack thereof for the Lady Stars), strength of schedule, and if they ultimately clinched their state's title. Bedford North Lawrence was one of only ten chosen in the nation to be recognized by MaxPreps — truly one of the best in the U.S.
The assembly began with Athletic Director Jeff Callahan recounting the Stars' undefeated season and their many accomplishments. Staff Sergeant Whitney Horn of the Indiana Army National Guard took the stage to praise the team for the dedication and endless work it requires to be a champion on and off the court. She then presented the coveted Army National Guard national ranking trophy and the Nationally Ranked banner to the Lady Stars. T-shirts and mini-basketballs were thrown out to the more than 1,500 students, teachers, and parents in attendance. With all five starters returning for the 2013-2014 basketball season, we look forward to their season next year.
Great things are expected for the Bedford North Lawrence High! Congratulations Lady Stars!
