Brianna Turner drilled a 10-foot jumper in the lane after a nice feed from
Jordin Canada with 53 seconds left, and that proved to be the winning basket in the West's 80-78 victory over the East in the 13th annual girls McDonald's All-American Game Wednesday at the United Center in Chicago.

Turner, a 6-foot-3 senior from Texas state champion
Manvel (Texas), finished with 11 points and 10 rebounds to earn the game's MVP honors.
Tennessee-bound
Jaime Nared, a 6-1 wing from
Westview (Portland, Ore.), led the West with 15 points while Canada, a 5-6 point guard from
Windward (Los Angeles) who is headed to UCLA, had 10 points and a McDonald's record seven assists.
Ariel Atkins, the Wootten Award winner who went to
Duncanville (Texas) and is headed for Texas, added 12 points for the winners.
Florida State-bound
Shakayla Thomas, a 5-11 forward from
Sylacauga (Ala.), was the game's most dominant player with 19 points and four rebounds for the East. Teammate
A'Ja Wilson, a 6-5 forward from
Heathwood Hall Episcopal (Columbia, S.C.), had 10 points, nine rebounds and four blocks. She was the only uncommitted player in the game.
After two free throws by
Myisha Hines Allen of
Montclair (N.J.) gave the East its first lead of the second half (67-66) with 8:30 remaining, the game seesawed. There were seven lead changes and five ties from there. Back-to-back buckets from Atkins and Nared gave the West a 78-76 lead with 1:45 left.
Wilson tied it with two free throws with 1:24 to go before the game-winning play.

Canada drove hard to the right and drew two defenders before finding the Notre Dame-bound Turner all alone just inside the free throw line. She swished the game winner.

"Jordin was driving and I tried to scoot to the open spot and she dished it to me and I made it," Turner said after the game in a TV interview. "We just tried to hustle. We're very athletic so we just wanted to run. We went to our strength.
The West won despite going 0-for-20 beyond the 3-point line.
