Gaston played for North Shore and has been a coach with the Mustangs since 2008. He worked with the quarterbacks from 2008-15 before being promoted to offensive coordinator in 2016. He has played a major role in the program's success, including state titles in 2015, 2018, 2019 and 2021. Since he took over as the offensive coordinator the offense has averaged 44.8 points per game.
A former quarterback at North Shore, Gaston went 25-3 as the starter before moving to the other side of the ball at the University of Houston. He started over 30 games in the secondary and had a brief stint with the Baltimore Ravens before going back to North Shore to focus on coaching.
Gaston has big shoes to fill as Kay led the Mustangs to a 117-18 record and four state titles during his nine-year tenure as head coach. He will be the third North Shore head coach since 1994. David Aymond was recently inducted in the Texas High School Coaches Association Hall of Honor and was the man in charge for the Mustangs from 1994-2013.
North Shore will be state title contenders again in 2023 with the talent they bring back led by starting quarterback
Kaleb Bailey. The Class of 2025 standout had his sophomore season cut short with an injury in late September and was a first team selection on the 2021 MaxPreps Freshman All-America squad. The Mustangs also return 2022 MaxPreps Sophomore All-American cornerback
Devin Sanchez and Class of 2025 standout wide receiver
Deion Deblanc.
