On Friday, Feb. 7, the ninth-annual MaxPreps Football Tour of Champions presented by the National Guard traveled to honor
Mallard Creek (Charlotte, N.C.). The gym was ready for the students to come in and start the pep rally as MaxPreps and the North Carolina Army National Guard arrived at the school. It was obvious that all the students and faculty were excited to see the Mavericks receive recognition for their outstanding season.
Out of more than 16,000 football programs in the nation, the Mavericks were ranked No. 31 by MaxPreps. Mallard Creek was one of only 50 schools being highlighted on the Football Tour of Champions this year. Coach Michael Palmieri and the team were honored to receive the Army National Guard national ranking trophy from Sgt. Alan Suggs of the North Carolina Army National Guard.
After receiving the trophy, coach Palmieri talked about what it means to be on the football field, but more importantly receiving this honor from the National Guard. He was very proud of the team for receiving this honor for the first time and talked about how the team will work hard this upcoming season to receive the award again next year. MaxPreps interviewed a few players and they talked about how this national recognition will motivate the team for next season.
Congratulations to the Mallard Creek Mavericks and we hope to see you again on the Tour of Champions next year!
