In a major Broward County upset,
Cooper City (Fla.) remained unbeaten, using several big plays to down perennial national power
St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) 21-16.
Senior running back Camden Krohn led the way, rushing for two touchdowns against a tough Aquinas defense, giving Cooper City a district 15-7A title.
Cooper City head coach Art Taylor seems to have Aquinas' number.
Prior
to Aquinas' loss to Miramar earlier this season, Taylor had been the
last Broward County coach to down Aquinas, winning 43-41 in 2007 while
coaching at Deerfield Beach.
Aquinas scored first, something its made a habit of this season, thanks to a 36-yard field goal from
Nolan Bieck to take a 3-0 lead.
Cooper City got on the board on an unusual play in the second quarter. Cooper City blocked an Aquinas field goal and somehow managed to return it 99 yards for a touchdown to take a 7-3.
It didn't take long for Aquinas to answer, however.
Fred Coppet scored on a 7-yard touchdown run to give Aquinas a lead entering halftime, 10-7.
The second half would belong to Cooper City.
Krohn struck again to give Cooper City its second lead of the game. He punched in a touchdown from 2 yards out to make it 14-10.

Later in the third, defensive end Jordan Mornay returned an Aquinas fumble 18 yards for a score to extend Cooper City's lead 21-10.
That lead would remain until the fourth quarter, when Aquinas quarterback
Max Lescano connected with
Mark Barr for a 9-yard touchdown.
Aquinas' two-point conversion attempt failed, leaving the score 21-16 with under three minutes to play.
Cooper City recovered the onside kick attempt, but Aquinas forced a punt, giving its normally-potent offense one final shot.
However, Aquinas would turn the ball over on downs, giving Cooper City its first ever win over Aquinas.
