When it comes to kicking a football through the uprights on a play from scrimmage, nobody in high school football history has done it more than
Cole Hedlund.
On Thursday in a 3A Division II bi-district playoff game, the
Argyle (Texas) senior kicked five field goals to put his name atop the national record book at 51 over the span of his career. Jimmy Stevens of Heritage Hall (Oklahoma City) previously held the record at 50, from 2003-06.
According to the Denton Record-Chronicle, the verbal commit to kick at Arkansas also owns the single-season national mark of 25 -
set in his sophomore year. He made connections Thursday from 47, 36, 33, 27 and 22 yards away for his record-breaking performance in a 57-12 blowout of Krum to move Argyle to 11-0.

His teammates celebrated the record by mobbing Hedlund and giving him congratulatory slaps on the head.
“I honestly can’t remember too much of it,” Hedlund was quoted as saying. “All I
remember is people patting me on my helmet. Actually, I kind of have a
headache right now from it.
“That was my greatest moment ever.”
Hedlund's teammates celebrated his achievement by letting him have first grabs at the trophy.
