Video: Spanish Fork softball 4A state title dance
See the unique celebration from last year.Dominant pitching is a recipe for success among Utah's top softball teams. For that reason, it comes as no surprise to see many of the state's best pitchers populating the rosters of top teams in all five classifications.
Class 3A power Desert Hills can lay claim to the state's statistically most dominant pitcher. Sophomore ace Brianna St. Clair leads the state in both wins and strikeouts. She has a 15-2 record in the circle and has notched 161 strikeouts. St. Clair has struck out a third of all the batters she has faced this season and has had 15 complete games. She also ranks among the top five in earned run average with a 1.68 ERA in 112 innings pitched.
Spanish Fork junior Cambrie Hazel is tearing through opposing offenses in similar fashion at the Class 4A level. Hazel ranks third statewide in wins and ERA and fourth in strikeouts. The junior ace boasts a 10-2 record with the defending Class 4A champions. She has 106 strikeouts and a 0.93 ERA. Hazel has struck out 38 percent of all the batters she has faced so far this season.
Two-time defending Class 5A champion Lehi hasn't skipped a beat this spring while getting strong pitching from Sydney White and Stefanie Zimmerman. The duo have combined for 11 wins and 105 strikeouts. White leads Class 5A, and ranks second statewide, with a 0.73 ERA.
