The Woodland Wolves fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back wins it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They walked away with a 38-27 win over Mesa Verde on Friday. That's another feather in the cap for Woodland, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Woodland's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Joe Abarca, who threw for 318 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 10.6 yards per attempt. Woodland also got help from Joseph Cadotte jr who showed off his sure hands for 146 receiving yards.
Mesa Verde's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Jake Miller, who rushed for 85 yards and two touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Luis Serrato, who rushed for 76 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries.
Woodland's victory bumped their record up to 2-8. As for Mesa Verde, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 4-6.
Woodland does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Mesa Verde will head out on the road to face off against Center at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Center presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Mesa Verde in California (Center is ranked 363rd, while Mesa Verde is ranked 852nd).
