The Edison Vikings will face off against the Summerville Bears at 4:15 p.m. on Saturday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Edison saw some tournament action on Friday. They walked away with a 13-8 victory over Mariposa County. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Vikings' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Jamaiya Wilson was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Angeleya Miranda was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
Edison was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .435. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2025.
Meanwhile, Summerville hadn't done well against Sonora recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Bears' pitcher stepped up to hand the Wildcats a 10-0 shutout. The game was the first time the Bears have beaten the Wildcats on their field since April 4, 2023.
Madelyn Nikiforuk made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
In other batting news, Summerville got a massive performance out of Kiersten Lutz, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most runs Lutz has posted since back in April of 2025. Another player making a difference was McKenzie Munsel, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
The win got Edison back to even at 2-2. As for Summerville, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Saturday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Edison has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .536. However, it's not like Summerville struggles in that department as they've averaged .596. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Edison couldn't quite get it done against Summerville in their previous matchup back in March of 2025 as they fell 11-6. Can the Vikings avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
