Baseball Recap: Western Beaver Triumphs

Western Beaver won the last time they faced Aquinas Academy and things went their way on Thursday too. The Golden Beavers came out on top against the Crusaders by a score of 7-3. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Golden Beavers.

Christian Stefankis made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3. He has become a key player for Western Beaver: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 1-3 otherwise.

In other pitching news, Brendon Fortner tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out nine over 5.2 innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

Back at the plate, Sawyer Chaffee was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Vincent Ross, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

Western Beaver was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Aquinas Academy only posted a batting average of .167.

Western Beaver's victory bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Aquinas Academy, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Western Beaver will head out to challenge Serra Catholic at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Golden Beavers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 8.6 runs per game this season. As for Aquinas Academy, they are taking a road trip to take on Apollo Ridge at 3:45 p.m. on Friday.
