Greeneview is preparing for their first conference matchup of the season on Tuesday. They will be playing at home against the Madison Plains Golden Eagles at 5:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Greeneview gave up the first runs last Thursday, but they didn't let that get them down. They walked away with a 9-5 win over Urbana. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Rams.
Maddie Leslie was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. Leslie was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Bella Sutton and Gabbie Burkett did most of the damage at the plate: Sutton scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Burkett scored two runs while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Rylie Battista, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one triple.
Meanwhile, Madison Plains put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past Mt. Gilead 11-1. Fans of the Golden Eagles have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.
Joy McLoughlin spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up ten Ks. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kenzie Vallery, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Kenzie Reeves, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.
Madison Plains always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .552. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mt. Gilead only posted an OBP of .167.
Madison Plains' victory bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Greeneview, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Greeneview hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .363. However, it's not like Madison Plains struggles in that department as they've averaged .483. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
