The Santiago Sharks are taking a road trip to take on the Grand Terrace Titans at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Santiago had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 12-run drubbing they dealt Walnut on Wednesday. Santiago's pitchers stepped up to hand Walnut a 12-0 shutout. The contest marked the Sharks' most dominant win of the season so far.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Grand Terrace). Everything went their way against Canyon Springs on Tuesday as Grand Terrace made off with an 11-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Titans in their matchups with the Cougars: they've now won three in a row.
Vann Morris made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. Grand Terrace is undefeated when Morris posts two or more runs, but 3-5 otherwise.
In other pitching news, Lawrence Bonilla looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Ray Roybal, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Grand Terrace's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-1 (and 2-4 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Ezekiel Jahen, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Grand Terrace kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Canyon Springs only managed five hits.
Santiago's record is now 6-3. As for Grand Terrace, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
Santiago took their victory against Grand Terrace when the teams last played back in May of 2022 by a conclusive 7-0. Will Santiago repeat their success, or does Grand Terrace has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
