The Oologah Mustangs lost against the Cushing Tigers back in October of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Oologah suffered a rough 45-21 defeat at the hands of Cushing. While losing is never fun, Oologah can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma football rankings (they are ranked 86th, while Cushing is ranked 29th).
Cushing had a senior duo take command as john hilligoss rushed for 109 yards and a touchdown and Brady Matheson gained 121 total yards and three touchdowns. Hilligoss hasn't dropped below three passing touchdowns for three straight games.
This is the second loss in a row for Oologah and nudges their season record down to 4-6. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 6-3 Miami (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 72.2% over those games). As for Cushing, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-2.
Oologah will head out on the road to face off against McLain Science & Tech at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Cushing, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Skiatook at 7:00 p.m. Skiatook is coming into the matchup on a five-game losing streak.
