It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Woodland Cougars had no problem doing just that on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 52-26 margin over Liberty. The result was nothing new for Woodland, who have now won eight matchups by 20 points or more so far this season.
Woodland's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Trey Bennett, who threw for 181 yards and two touchdowns on only 17 passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Chase Bowman was another key contributor, gaining 71 total yards and two touchdowns.
Despite the loss, Liberty still got an impressive performance from Trent Thompson, who threw for 89 yards and two touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. The team also got some help courtesy of Carson Reeder, who picked up 31 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Woodland has yet to lose a match at home this season, leaving them with a 10-1 record. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 39.7 points per game. As for Liberty, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-3.
Woodland will face off against Colcord at TBD on Friday. Colcord has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 485 points over their last ten matches. Liberty does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
