Basketball Recap: Jayce Gumm's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Princeton over Greenbrier East

Princeton was the 63-43 winner over Greenbrier East when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The game between the Princeton Tigers and the Greenbrier East Spartans didn't end well, with the Princeton Tigers falling 79-60. The loss was the Tigers' first of the season.

Several Tigers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jayce Gumm, who went 6 of 8 on his way to 15 points and eight boards. Gumm is crushing it when it comes to rebounds: he's pulled down at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Britt Beasley, who posted 17 points and three steals.

Even though they lost, Princeton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in four consecutive contests.

Having lost for the first time this season, Princeton fell to 3-1. As for Greenbrier East, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 3-2.

Princeton will challenge Linsly at 2:45 p.m. on January 11th. As for Greenbrier East, they will square off against Nicholas County at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Greenbrier East knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past three matches -- so hopefully Nicholas County likes a good challenge.
