The Phoenix Christian Cougars's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight loss. They fell just short of Highland Prep by a score of 41-39. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Phoenix Christian of the 51-32 loss they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2023.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Highland Prep to victory, but perhaps none more so than Trinity Alfaro, who scored 20 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Anahi Nunez, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and two blocks.
Phoenix Christian has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost eight of their last ten contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season. As for Highland Prep, their victory ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-10.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Phoenix Christian won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against St. John Paul II Catholic at 5:30 p.m. on January 24th. St. John Paul II Catholic is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road. As for Highland Prep, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Mountainside at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Mountainside's defense has only allowed 27.5 points per game this season, so Highland Prep's offense will have their work cut out for them.
