The power rankings have been shaken up after a frantic week teeming with triumph and disappointment. There's a new number one at the head of the rankings as well as a new caboose.
Welcome
Given its edge in the MaxPreps state rankings, a win looked likely for De Soto in its matchup against Spring Hill. The team got that and then some. De Soto took its contest against Spring Hill by a conclusive 38 - 12 score. De Soto found its leader in an underclassman: Jackson Miller rushed for 72 yards and threw for two touchdowns, which was enough to make him one of the team's best players. The win also thrust De Soto into the power rankings, where the team now holds the 24th spot.
Can't Touch This
Pratt got a 42 - 0 win over Kingman/Cunningham last week, and a key reason for the win was senior Travis Theis. Theis earned two touchdowns and 266 yards rushing the ball. That performance landed Theis among the top power-ranked players for the week.
No Stoppin 'Em
Northwest has been an offensive powerhouse for four straight weeks after the team lit up the scoreboard again last week. It blew past Kapaun Mt. Carmel 55 - 26. Kapaun Mt. Carmel had come in flaunting an aggressive defense allowing an average of only 7.25 points per game, but that obviously didn't scare off Northwest. At 81 total points, this was the highest scoring power ranking game of the week.
Next Week's Big Game
The big showdown in the power rankings this week is between Blue Valley (7th in the power rankings) and Bishop Miege (2nd). Blue Valley is backed by a win while Bishop Miege is motivated by a recent defeat. Bishop Miege has never lost back-to-back this season, but Blue Valley hopes to show it that there is a first time for everything.
