Even though the Highland Park Scots scored an imposing 61 points on Saturday, the Northwest Grizzlies still came out on top. Northwest narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Highland Park 64-61. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory Northwest has posted yet this season.
Elijah Benning continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 30 points along with five rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Darrian Hammond, who scored 11 points.
The win (which was Northwest's third in a row) raised their record to 10-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.3 points per game. As for Highland Park, their loss ended a 15-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Northwest and Heights will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Heights knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 11 matchups -- so hopefully Northwest likes a good challenge. As for Highland Park, they will head out on the road to take on Eudora at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Eudora is on a four-game streak of home wins, Highland Park a 13-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
