The Sioux City West Wolverines's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They fell 61-54 to Jefferson. While losing is never fun, Sioux City West can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Iowa basketball rankings (they are ranked 264th, while Jefferson is ranked 44th).
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Jefferson to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jayden Calabro, who scored 22 points along with nine rebounds and two steals. That's the first time this season that Calabro pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Dewaele, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 13 rebounds.
Sioux City West's defeat was their fifth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 1-8. As for Jefferson, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-2.
Sioux City West will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Bishop Heelan Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on January 30th. As for Jefferson, they will be playing at home against St. Albert at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. St. Albert is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
