You can't lose the match if you win every quarter, and that was precisely the Speedway Sparkplugs's strategy against the South Putnam Eagles on Saturday. Speedway took down the Eagles 62-44. Winning may never get old, but Speedway sure is getting used to it with their third in a row.
Alex DeLisle was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 29 points and 11 rebounds. She continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played. Daniella Galvez was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with five rebounds and five steals.
Chlara Pistelli and Drew Gardner certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Pistelli scored 13 points along with three steals, while Gardner scored 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lilly Emmerich, who scored six points.
Speedway is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season. As for South Putnam, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-9.
Speedway will take on the Saints at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Indianapolis Lutheran focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 26 on Saturday. As for South Putnam, they will head out on the road to square off against the Braves at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Indian Creek has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
