It was a good run, but the Rigby Trojans unfortunately witnessed the end of their ten-game winning streak dating back to last season on Thursday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 43-42 to Blackfoot. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Rigby has scored all season.
When it comes to explaining why Rigby lost, one person who can't be blamed is Kambree Barber. Despite the final result, she scored 17 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. The game was Barber's ninth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Mylee Graham, who scored seven points along with five rebounds.
It was another big night for Marlee Pieper, who scored 28 points along with five rebounds for Blackfoot. Pieper continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaci Capson, who scored five points along with five rebounds.
Rigby's loss dropped their record down to 8-1. As for Blackfoot, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a massive bump to their 6-4 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rigby will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Highland at 7:30 p.m. on January 3, 2024. As for Blackfoot, they will head out on the road to face off against Thunder Ridge at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Thunder Ridge is out to stop a four-game streak of losses at home.
