The Eastern Randolph Wildcats struggled with assists on Tuesday (the Williams Bulldogs had nine more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Eastern Randolph was the victim of a tough 55-33 loss at the hands of Williams. While losing is never fun, Eastern Randolph can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 415th, while Williams is ranked 178th).
Eastern Randolph lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Ziera Watson, who scored 11 points along with five steals. Watson scored a full 33.3% of Eastern Randolph's points, the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kenly Whitaker, who scored nine points along with five rebounds.
Williams found their leader in underclassman Regan Averett, who scored 21 points along with six rebounds. That makes it five consecutive games in which Averett has scored at least 25% of Williams' points. Another player making a difference was Scout Winter, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for Eastern Randolph and nudges their season record down to 1-4. As for Williams, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 4-1.
Eastern Randolph will head out on the road to face off against Oak Grove at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Oak Grove focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Tuesday. As for Williams, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on Cummings at 6:00 p.m. on December 14th. Cummings is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
