Wahkiakum is 3-0 against Ocosta since September of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Wahkiakum Mules will look to defend their home field against the Ocosta Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Wahkiakum had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 28.7 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They came out on top against Rainier by a score of 21-12.
Wahkiakum's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Zakkary Carlson led the charge by throwing for 161 yards and three touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Grant Wilson, who picked up 89 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Ocosta's and Toutle Lake's contest on Friday was close at halftime, but Ocosta turned on the heat in the second half with 34 points. Ocosta took their matchup at home with ease, bagging a 54-22 win over Toutle Lake. The result was nothing new for Ocosta, who have now won three matches by 32 points or more so far this season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Ocosta to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tarren Lewis, who rushed for 62 yards and three touchdowns, and also threw for 179 yards and two touchdowns on only 13 passes. Andrew Martin was another key contributor, gaining 214 total yards and three touchdowns.
Another reason for the win was Ocosta's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. Toutle Lake's QB won't forget Johnathen Helberg anytime soon given Helberg sacked him four times.
Wahkiakum's win was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 4-4. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-7 North Beach and 3-5 Toutle Lake (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 37.5% over those games). As for Ocosta, their win bumped their record up to 3-4.
Everything came up roses for Wahkiakum against Ocosta in their previous matchup back in September of 2022 as the squad secured a 51-0 win. Does Wahkiakum have another victory up their sleeve, or will Ocosta turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
