ALBANY, Ga. - The defense did their part on the scoring end for for
Monroe (Albany, Ga.) on Saturday, totaling 21 points as the Tornadoes bested
Westover (Albany, Ga.) 61-50.
After trailing 28-18 at the half, the Patriots went ahead on a safety with 6:00 to go in the third. Monroe finally took the lead for good when they ran in a two-point conversion with 3:00 left in the third quarter.
By the end of the third, MHS found itself trailing by two points as Westover captured the lead thanks to three scores in the quarter. WHS scored on a two-point conversion, a safety and a
Quintavious Moran touchdown run in the quarter.
A 27-10 Monroe victory was the result when the squads faced off last season.
The victory was a step in the right direction for Monroe, which was coming off a 24-21 defeat at the hands of Fitzgerald in its previous game.
In a AAAA Region 1 game next week Westover (1-3) takes on Cairo, and Monroe (2-2) will go up against Albany also in a AAAA Region 1 game.
