Make it eight blowout wins for the Veritas Collegiate Academy Spartans this season. They claimed a resounding 87-58 victory over Summit Christian Academy on the road. Given Veritas Collegiate Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 78th, while the Eagles are ranked 381st), the result on Monday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Veritas Collegiate Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Marcqell Freeman, who scored 18 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Freeman is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 18 or more in the last six games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jailen Pinnix, who almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine rebounds.
Despite the defeat, Summit Christian Academy saw an underclassman step up: Cole Miller scored 22 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Miller has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Chase Miller, who scored six points along with five rebounds.
Even though they lost, Summit Christian Academy were working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Veritas Collegiate Academy is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season. As for Summit Christian Academy, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-17.
Veritas Collegiate Academy will face off against the at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Summit Christian Academy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Falcons at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Grove Christian School focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight on Monday.
