The El Dorado Cougars will venture away from home to face off against the Rio Americano Raiders at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. El Dorado is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.
Having struggled with four losses in a row, El Dorado turned things around against Galt on Friday. They came out on top against the Warriors by a score of 10-0 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). The high-scoring effort was just what the Cougars needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.
El Dorado got a massive performance out of Kevin Thiessen, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. Those two hits gave Thiessen a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Clay Garrett, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3.
El Dorado was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .520. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
The home team had won the previous two meetings between Rio Americano and Inderkum, and Rio Americano kept the tradition alive. The Raiders skirted past the Tigers 8-6.
Pierce Tully made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over seven innings while giving up six earned runs off ten hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lincoln Dorway, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-3. Another player making a difference was Parker Fowler, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4.
Rio Americano pushed their record up to 15-8 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.3 runs over those games. As for El Dorado, they now have a winning record of 10-9.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. El Dorado has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Rio Americano struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
