On Friday, Conemaugh Valley was the victim of a tough 41-16 defeat at the hands of Cambria Heights. Conemaugh Valley has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Defeat or not, Conemaugh Valley got some senior leadership from Devin Chontas who rushed for 102 yards and a touchdown and Adam Jasper who rushed for 55 yards and a touchdown. Chontas is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last three games he's played.
Cambria Heights can attribute much of their success to Luke Mulraney, who rushed for 134 yards and a touchdown while picking up 7.1 yards per carry. Another player making a difference was Isaac Weiland, who threw for 112 yards and two touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes.
Conemaugh Valley's loss was their seventh straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 1-8. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 8-1 United Valley co-op [Blacklick Valley/United] and 7-2 Purchase Line (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 57.5% over those games). As for Cambria Heights, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 7-2.
Conemaugh Valley will head out on the road to face off against Homer-Center at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Homer-Center is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak. As for Cambria Heights, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Northern Cambria at 7:00 p.m. Northern Cambria is coming into the match hot, having won their last eight games.
