Baseball Game Preview: Pacific Ridge Firebirds vs. Army-Navy Warriors

For the second straight game, Pacific Ridge will face off against Army-Navy. The Firebirds are taking a road trip to square off against the Warriors at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Pacific Ridge is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.1 runs per game this season.

Pacific Ridge took a loss when they played away from home last Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 14-2 margin over Army-Navy. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Firebirds considering their one-run performance the game before.

Michael Fredericks and Brendan Huggett made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Fredericks tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Huggett didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Fredericks has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. At bat, Fredericks got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs and one RBI, while Huggett got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run. Pacific Ridge is undefeated when Fredericks posts two or more runs, but 4-10 otherwise.

In other batting news, Cal Chivers was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two doubles. He is becoming a predictor of Pacific Ridge's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 4-10 when he doesn't). Ford Naylor also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Pacific Ridge's record is now 8-10. As for Army-Navy, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last nine matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-17 record this season.
